The Directorate of Environment & Climate Change in the state is coordinating and promoting all environment related issues along with its meaningful application in various developmental programmes. Taking into account of its inevitable functions and various responsibilities under the Environment (Protection) Acts and its subsequent Rules entrusted by the State Government as well as the Government of India from time to time, the office has been strengthened and upgraded into a full-fledged Directorate of Environment during 2011-12 and again as Directorate of Environment and Climate Change during 2016 in the State Government.

Now, the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change is presently implementing seven different schemes under state plan with community participation, namely

  1. Eco-development Programme and Natural Resources Conservation
  2. Environment Education and Information Dissemination Programme
  3. Environmental Monitoring, Research & Development with and Multidisciplinary Scientific Study of River catchments and Spring-shed Management
  4. Climate Change, Environmental Impact Studies and Social Impact Assessment
  5. Environmental Planning Management of Wetlands / Lakes and Waterbodies
  6. Solid Waste Management
  7. Information Technology and GIS

Besides of these plan scheme / programme activities, the Directorate have also been implementing various CSSs (Central Sector Schemes), namely

  2. Integrated Management Plan and Conservation of Waithou-Phumnom Pat, Imphal East & Thoubal
  3. Integrated Management Plan and Conservation of Yaral Pat, Imphal East
  4. Integrated Management Plan and Conservation of Utra Pat, Bishnupur
  5. Integrated Management Plan and Conservation of Jaimeng Lake, Kangpokpi
  6. State Climate Change Cell, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India
  7. EIACP Centre (Environment Information, awareness, capacity building and livelihood programme), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India
  8. Rejuvenation of Imphal-Manipur River(priority-V) and Faecal Sludge and Septage Management at 27 ULBs (approved by Appraisal Committee, on pipeline)
  9. Plant for Collecting Plastic and other Floating Debris from the Rivers (recommended by Sectoral Empowered Committee of NEC, under pipeline)
